About Us

and how it all began.

We are a (soon-to-be official) nonprofit rescue dedicated to helping little birds in need, located near Dayton, Ohio, USA. We rescue small birds in need, rehabilitate and treat them, and adopt them out or provide them a forever home with us.

Why Little Birds?

In my time working at a parrot sanctuary, I’ve realized how little resources there are for little birds. If someone has a budgie or finch they need to rehome, they don’t have many options. Most cat/dog animal shelters can’t take in birds, and a lot of parrot rescues focus their resources on larger birds and accept few little ones. Where does this leave the little guys?

Many people looking to rehome are turned away from official agencies and are left to figure things out on their own, often in potentially unsafe ways. This isn’t fair; we believe that even the smallest birds deserve a chance. Additionally, for those looking to adopt a budgie or other small bird, there aren’t many options for those who don’t want to support big pet stores.

This is why we do what we do.

Here at A Little Budgie Told Me, we specialize in budgies but accept other small pet birds, such as cockatiels, finches, and doves. We especially love our many disabled birds or other birds that may need specialized care. We are experienced and confident in caring for even the most traumatized and nervous birds.
